Our Purpose
The foremost objective of Grace Fellowship Chapel is to present accurate Bible teaching on a Grace basis to those who desire to learn it. Thus, in keeping with the Apostle Paul's method of "rightly dividing (i.e., "cutting straight") the word of truth" (II Tim. 2:15), we follow the "S.L.I.C.E.D." method of doctrinal presentation.
This acrostic stands for communicating the Bible…
Systematically, i.e., teaching book-by-book, verse-by-verse,
word-by-word, doctrine-by-doctrine, and precept-by-precept (Isa. 28:9-10, 13).
Linguistically, i.e., contemplating the words from the viewpoint of the vocabulary, grammar, tense, overall context, and meaning of the original Bible languages and English (Jn. 19:17-20).
Isagogically, i.e., considering a word, passage, or doctrine in the light of its historic context showing how it was understood at the time in which it was written (Mk. 7:1-23; v. 11).
Categorically, i.e., arranging doctrines into general groups for the purpose of classification, comparison, or contrast (Heb. 6:1-2).
Exegetically, i.e., bringing out the underlying meaning of a word, passage, or concept in a deeper, fuller, and richer way, as opposed to understanding it in a merely superficial or cursory manner (Lk. 24:25-27, 44-45).
Dispensationally, i.e., recognizing the differing economies in God's historic dealings with mankind and the special relevance of Paul's epistles for our understanding and obedience today (Rom. 15:16-21; Eph. 1:10; 2:7, 11-13).
We do this so that each believer might attain the goal of maximum spiritual maturity. This is to enable them to have a comprehensive understanding of the overall Plan of God, and to empower them to live in a manner pleasing to God. The consistency of Bible intake has transformed them, and the knowledge of the Son of God to the standard of maturity that belongs to the fullness of Christ (Eph. 4:10-24).
